Should US immigration law be changed to make it easier to LEAVE the country?
Tuesday, June 19th, 2007Presently, people leaving the US and becoming citizens of other countries face a tax of their “estate” - their assets - when they leave, and may even be subject to income tax for a period of time after they emigrate.
I know of not similar restrictions on those bringing money or assets into the country.
So, should “open borders” work both ways? Why or why not?
What would happen if there were a “one time amnesty” for BOTH those coming in, and going out?
Should future enforcement of one be tied to furure enforcement of the other? If one is enforced more strictly, why?
I guess this also is a question about how people feel about the estate tax in general.
